Introduction

- the FERA readout is a VXI size D module with VXI interface and readout using a GIR.
- must control and read all 4 FERA types: Lecroy, Silena, Ortec, Gannelec.
- must interface FERA with the EUROBALL trigger system to synchronise the ex ternal detectors.
- must generate an event number to tag each event.
- must be able to generate variable length gates with "sufficient" precision for FERA QDCs.
- must derive FERA gate timing from either front panel input or VXI triggers (user selects).
- must check for a EUROBALL validation before FERA readout.
- must generate EUROBALL data format.
- must have watchdog timeout for error recovery.
This specification is organized in 3 chapters. Chapter one describes the main functions of the ancillary trigger and its constraints conpared with the Euroball master trigger constraints, in particular for the timing and the dead time. Depending of these constraints, the main functions of the FVI are described. The chapter two shows the requirement model of the FVI. Then the chapter three describes the architectural model of the FVI
